Yes! All kennels have indoor and outdoor runs. The dogs have access to their outdoor run between 6am and 9pm. They are also let out to run and play in the yard throughout the day. If your dog is friendly with other dogs, they will be allowed to play in groups!
My dog never has his collar off, can he wear it during his stay?
For safety reasons, we do not allow your pets to wear anything while they are at One of a Kind Canine. We are more than happy to keep their collar and leash in their locker so they can wear it when they go home!
Can my dogs stay together?
Your dogs can share a kennel as long as they get along and don't fight over food, toys, or beds.
What do the dogs do when they are not playing in the yard?
Usually after play time they are ready for a nap. If your dog decides not to nap, they have a Nylabone in their kennel that they can chew on. During warm days, they can go in and out through the dog door in their run.
My dog is on medication, can they stay at One of a Kind Canine?
As long as your dog isn't being treated for a contagious sickness, One of a Kind Canine will medicate your dog during their stay, just make sure their name is one each medication (e.g. Onyx Colson) and the written directions are correct.
Can I bring my dog's bed from home?
Yes. If you bring your own bed, One of a Kind Canine is not responsible for damage or loss of the bed. Also, if the bed gets dirty we may not be able to wash it. One of a Kind Canine does have blankets and beds that can be provided during your dog's stay.
What vaccinations does my pet need to have to stay with One of a Kind Canine?
The following vaccinations are required for your pet's stay: Rabies ( for cats and dogs, once your pet is 6 months old), Distemper/Parvo (dogs), and Bordetella (kennel cough; dogs) and CVR-C for cats. Your pet will not be allowed to stay at One of a Kind Canine if these vaccinations are not up to date.
Does my dog need to be on leash when arriving or leaving One of a Kind Canine?
Yes! All dogs are required to be on leash when arriving or leaving, especially in the parking lot, as we are located next to 2 very busy roads. This is for the safety of your dog, the other dogs, and to keep the lobby and kennel area as calm as possible. Not all dogs that are staying with One of a Kind Canine are friendly!
How old does my pet have to be to stay with One of a Kind Canine?
Pets must be at least 4 months old and have at least 3 sets of their puppy or kitten series as well as the bordetella vaccine for puppies.
Can I tour your facility before my pet's stay?
Yes, but please call ahead to schedule a time for a tour. Having strangers come in the kennel area while the dogs are inside makes them nervous and agitated. We take pride in all our guests feeling calm and safe during their stay, so we schedule tours during the dogs' outside play time to keep stress as low as possible!
My dog gets cold easily, can they wear a sweater while they stay?
For safety reasons, we do not allow dogs to wear anything while they are at One of a Kind Canine. We can put their sweater on when they go outside if needed. The kennel room is heated and your dog will be able to snuggle down in their bed.
Is the kennel area heated/cooled?
It is! In the winter we keep the temperature around 63 degrees (dogs have a higher body temperature than humans, and if they get too hot they tend to potty). We also keep the dog doors closed during cold days in the winter and insulate them from the outside to help retain heat. In the summer we have a swamp cooler and ceiling fans that keep the kennel area cool and the air circulated.
What type of payment options do you take?
One of a Kind Canine accepts all major credit cards (including American Express) and cash. We do not accept checks.
What do my dogs eat when they are staying with One of a Kind Canine?
Dogs will eat their food from home. Please bring only enough food for the duration of their stay in either a freezer bag or pre-portioned sandwich bags. Their lockers are not big enough for store bought bags of food or large containers. If your pet is staying for an extended time (1 week+), please make sure their food is in a plastic container. PLEASE DO NOT BRING STORE BOUGHT BAGS!
Do my dogs get treats during their stay?
Yes! Each dog gets their own Kong at bedtime that is stuffed with a variety of treats and peanut butter. If your dog has any food sensitivities or allergies, make sure to let us know when you drop your dog off and we will make sure to use appropriate goodies for their Kong!
My dog has never stayed with you before, how do we make a reservation?
All new dogs must go through a behavior evaluation before making a reservation. This will be a day-long visit, and will give the dog and our staff a chance to get to know each other. If your dog's behavior is not suitable for boarding, you will have to make other arrangements. If you do not live locally and will not be able to get your dog in before your desired reservation time, we will require at least 2 references from other boarding/daycare facilities or your vet clinic. If your dog passes the evaluation and becomes a danger to our staff or other guests during their stay, your emergency contact will have to come pick up the dog. This is for the safety of all of our guests and our staff.
My dog is able to jump/climb fences, will they be able to get out?
The boarding kennels have climb prevention bars and we have the Invisible Fence as well as climbing prevention bars installed around the play yard. While your dog is out they will wear the collar for the Invisible Fence and be supervised. The kennels and the fence around the yard are 6 feet tall.
